Payday and title loans cost borrowers over $7 billion in fees annually. This money is removed from our local economies and works to move borrowers from distressed to destitute. Loans averaging over 300% APR trap our families in cycles of debt, leaving them unable to pay bills, keep food on the table, or provide for their children.
Join Faith in Texas as we call on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to issue strong regulations for payday and title loans. Hundreds of people of faith, non-profit leaders, veterans, and local government officials will raise their stories and their voices before a CFPB representative. Our stories from the debt trap matter - they help provide the urgency and the mandate that the CFPB needs to pass a strong rule that will require lenders to assess borrower’s ability-to-repay before issuing loans and limit the amount of time borrowers can be held in debt.
Our families cannot wait any longer for an end to predatory lending. Your voice is powerful. Your faith is powerful. Put it in action on October 24 by telling the CFPB to “Stop the debt trap!”
